Title: The First Ten Steps: Building the Enchanted Jungle Community

When I launched The Enchanted Jungle Community Podcast, I did not fully realize how quickly it would grow into a living extension of my classroom philosophy.

The first ten episodes were not random topics. They were roots of a community-built on belonging, structure, kindness, and purpose.

As a retired special education teacher turned author and podcaster, these early episodes represent the heart behind A Practical Roadmap Organizing and Managing the Special Ed Classroom, The Enchanted Jungle Series, and the values that guide everything I create.

Here is how the journey began.

Episode 23: The Birth of the FLA Green Team

In this episode of The Enchanted Jungle Community Podcast, we witness the inspiring birth of The FLA Green TEAM.

After seeing the bountiful harvest in the FLA Garden, Mrs. Beary Bear and Mrs. Foxy Fox realized that the same spirit of teamwork and care can help another land in need, the dry and barren Fiery Forest.

An after-school meeting was called at the FLA Auditorium. The FLA Champs, their parents, Mayor Wolfy Wolf, Mrs. Parroty Parrot and her Jazz Choir, Mr. Joshua Jaguar (PE Teacher), and the community volunteers like Mr. Buzz Gorilla Beekeeper gathered to help with this project.

With excitement in the air, Mrs. Foxy Fox, Master Gardener, demonstrated how the reforestation adventure would begin.

That day, a new team was formed- a team rooted in kindness, responsibility, and environmental stewardship.

That day, the FLA Green Team was born.

And in the Enchanted Jungle, every great journey began with a caring heart, a hopeful seed, and a community that believed in growing together,

Episode 24:  The Rocking Grannies: Friendship Behind the Enchanted Jungle

In this heartfelt episode, we meet three beloved Rocking Grannies of the Enchanted Jungle- Mrs. Beary Bear (Kaberi Bhattacharjee), Mrs. Foxy Fox (Laurie Fleck), and Mrs. Parroty Parrot (Nanda Prasad).

Their friendship did not begin in one classroom. It began years earlier, when two aspiring special education teachers joined the National University to get their Education Specialist credential. Through years of studying, teaching at different school sites, collaborating across programs, and even gardening together, their friendship deepened.

Their shared experiences inspired their first co-authored teacher resource book, A Practical Roadmap to Organizing and Managing the Special Ed Classroom. This led to the creation of The Enchanted Jungle Series, with the first co-authored children’s book, The Friendly Learning Academy: The FLA Way”. Mrs. Beary Bear authored the next book in this series, The FLA Green Team to the Rescue. With the artistic brilliance of Mrs. Parroty Parrot, a retired Montessori science teacher and illustrator, the Enchanted Jungle came alive with its young jungle animals.

Now as the Rocking Grannies, the three friends continue to inspire the Enchanted Jungle Community- while Mrs. Parroty Parrot’s Jazz Choir of birds, named after the grandchildren of the Rocking Grannies, fill the forest with music and joy.

Episode 25 - Teaching, Friendship, and Shared Dream: A Conversation with Co-Author Laurie Fleck

In this heartfelt episode, Kaberi sits down with her longtime friend and co-author, Laurie Fleck, to reflect on their journey as special education teachers and collaborators.

From their days as aspiring special education teachers getting their Education Specialist credentials from National University, creating lesson plans together to co-authoring their first teacher resource book, Laurie shares how their shared values, experiences, and dedication to students led to the creation of A Practical Roadmap to Organizing and Managing the Special Ed Classroom. This teacher resource book led to them co-authoring their first children’s book, The Friendly Learning Academy: The FLA Way”. As veteran teachers Kaberi and Laurie agreed that it was very important to have a classroom in order before any meaningful learning could take place. Through this children’s book about naughty and rambunctious animals, they were able to show how a structured and disciplined class based on empathy and kindness from the teachers can create a conducive learning environment and promote belonging and emotional security among the students.

Kaberi and Laurie shared over two decades of friendship, teaching, and collaboration- and this conversation was a celebration of that journey. This conversation not only celebrated friendship and professional growth but showed that when educators support one another, they create stronger classrooms and brighter futures for their students.

Episode 33: When Every Child Blooms Differently- Lessons from the Garden and the Classroom

In this reflective episode of The Enchanted Jungle Community Podcast, Kaberi Bhattacharjee shares a personal story that connects two of her greatest passions: gardening and teaching.

While tending to the vibrant flowers in her garden, Kaberi reflects on how each plant grows differently. Some flowers stand tall on their own, while others need gentle support from garden stakes to help them grow better.

This simple moment in the garden reminds her of the many students she nurtured throughout her years as a special-ed teacher.

During a recent storytelling visit at Latimer School’s Mystery Reader’s Day, Kaberi adjusted her approach to engaging students through colorful illustrations, music, and movement. As she demonstrated the FLA Code of Conduct through song and gesture, one student quietly pointed to his ears when she spoke about listening to the teacher.

That small moment captured a powerful truth: when teaching meets students where they are, learning blossoms in beautiful ways.

In this episode Kaberi reflects on differentiation, compassion, and the joy of helping each and every student of hers grow according to their abilities.

Episode 35: Reflections on the Journey

While taking an evening walk, I decided to listen to several of my own podcast episodes one after another. What I felt in that quiet moment surprised me- a deep sense of joy, reflection, and gratitude.

Each episode reminded me why the Enchanted Jungle stories were created in the first place: to imagine a world guided by kindness, friendship, cooperation, and respect for one another.

Through the characters of the Enchanted Jungle, I try to paint a hopeful picture of the kind of community we can build when we allow our better angels to guide our actions- one where compassion replaces conflict, collaboration replaces division, and every learner feels valued.

In this episode, I share a personal reflection on the journey from educator to author, and now a podcaster, and how storytelling continues to shape the vision of a peaceful and caring community for all.

Through the Enchanted Jungle stories, I try to imagine a world where kindness guides our actions. We may come from different counties, cultures, and traditions, but ultimately, we belong to one human family sharing the Earth.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
